Panasonic TV Offers for PC Show

Personally, it puzzles me why Singaporeans go to the PC/Computer Show to purchase TVs. The hectic environment doesn't really allow you to 'test drive' the TVs and to make things worst, you have to haul the big and heavy box back home yourselves. Price savings? Hmmm... doubtful, as I am sure all the big electrical retailers can match that price if you ask them nicely.

Hence, this leads nicely to the Panasonic offers that coincides with the on-going PC Show. Valid to Sunday, 14 June 2009, and they are available islandwide. Make sure to bargain; these prices are never fixed. Here's some of my picks:

Plasma TVs:

TH-P42X10 42" HD-Ready Plasma TV
$1,699 + $200 shopping vouchers
Nothing beats the picture quality from a plasma screen, period! This 42" Panasonic TH-P42X10 is taken from the company's 2009 line of X10 Series of budget (read great-value), HD-Ready Plasmas. Personally, you don't need Full HD for this screen size. Money saved can buy you a PS3 or a decent Blu-Ray player to provide the HD source. The UK model recently received a 5-star rating from What Hi-fi? magazine. Do your TV, and yourself, a favour and subscribe to Starhub's HD content immediately after purchasing. You'll be amazed.

TH-P50X10 50" HD-Ready Plasma TV
$3,499 + $400 shopping vouchers
TH-P50S10 50" Full HD Plasma TV
$4,499 + $400 shopping vouchers
It might be worthwhile for you to consider these 50" plamas if you have a bigger room to put them in. See this CNET guide to determine your ideal TV size. Between these TVs, the $1,000 difference buys you a Full HD (1920x1080 resolution) screen. At this screen size, you will notice a slight hint of softness to the edges for the HD-Ready TV but it's not detrimental to your viewing pleasure.

LCD TVs:

TX-L37S10 37" Full HD LCD TV
$1,499 + $200 shopping vouchers
Another What Hi-Fi? 5-star product from Panasonic. "This LCD produces excellent TV pictures; clear and detailed with HD sources; copes well with tough viewing angles. This is fine all-rounder." Get this if you are concerned with the big electricity needs of a plasma and is OK with a slight reduction in black levels.

Singapore PC Show Updates

I had revisited the PC Show on Friday evening, 12 June. I was surprised to learn that the HP Pavilion dv4-1413TX (mentioned in my previous post) laptop has been SOLD OUT. A salesperson at the HP booth told me that all the stock for that model has been sold. Hmm... too bad. Personally, this IS the mid-range laptop to get at the PC Show this year if you are ever in the market for one.
